Yes, you see it well. This is a real one. A very unappreciated one, of which very few were built. We love it!
The Maserati Kyalami. Built between 1976 and 1983 but for the origin of this Italian V8 we have to go back to 1972. Maserati was owned by Citroen but the French were in dire financial straits and put the marque up for sale. And someone famous was interested in it. Namely, Alejandro De Tomaso. The man who made his money in the 1930s by being the son of the Argentine Minister of Agriculture.
The DeTomaso Longchamp, which they had just brought onto the market, was not selling very well and the marque was desperate for a new flagship to bring to market quickly. Maserati itself had no money for this, so DeTomaso turned to a design studio in Turin where he commissioned a new version of the Longchamp: the Kyalami.
And they did well, because nowadays, and in those days by the club of people who did have taste, it is one of the coolest cars you can own as a petrolhead. The car was a wonderful beginning of a new era but also the end of another era. It is in fact Maserati's last coupé with the famous V8 with which Maserati won many a race on the Kyalami circuit. In the end, only 200 were built and we have one of them. Not just any old one, but an original Dutch delivered 4.2 in a beautiful condition.
